The crusaders actually are responsible for the downfall of the byzantine empire and they also pillaged the Haga Sophia. So this meme does not fit very well..

It was for around 1000 years a church then ca 500 years a mosque turns around the 30s declared as a museum and now again a mosque

At least it's not converted into a night club like in France.

Atatürk must be rotating in his grave. Erdogan is peeing on his legacy.

Are you all that dumb? They made it into a mosque in 1453 when the ottoman empire conquered constantinople. In the 30s Atatürk made it a museum but it was still technically a mosque.

Dawn Johnson

So what? They owned it.

Israel steals Muslim Palestinian lands: No one bats an eye Turkey re-uses old museum as Mosque: everyone loses their mind.

It was a mosque for 450 years before turning into a museum. It will be used again as a mosque, doesn't mean people wont be able to visit it. many mosques are open to tourists in Istanbul.

Robert Niles

The fact that religions still exist in 2020 is the biggest disgrace

Donna Renee Rensel

Still free to visit for tourists and its free now

So let me get this straight. The Turkic government wants Hagia Sofia to be a mosque instead of returning it to the Christians. Meanwhile, the Islamic world called the Spanish Christians oppressive for not returning the big mosque in Cordova back to muslims. C'mon muslims. You can't have both.

Nicole Farquhar

Well its a mosque now, first prayer will take place on friday around 5pm not sure exactly because prayer times change (sun cycle). Everyone muslim is invited to the prayer like they are invited 5 times a day by the azan (call to prayer). All non muslims are allowed to visit when ever, but its a place of worship now and not a museum lol. İt has been under the control of turks for over 500 years i think (dont quote me on that) they have the right to do what ever they want. So if you hate us Turks for being this way die in your rage.
